Submission & Rights Policy
Tavi Grove is an independent publisher for short fiction, photography, illustration, and other creative work. Our goal is to give artists and writers a thoughtful place to share their work and to build a small, curated publication featuring the work of emerging and established creators.
All submissions are subject to editorial review. Submission does not guarantee publication.
Ownership & Copyright
You retain all copyright and ownership of work you submit to Tavi Grove.
We do not claim ownership of your writing, photography, illustrations, or other creative work. You remain free to publish, sell, license, exhibit, or otherwise use your work elsewhere, including after it has been published by us.
By submitting work, you confirm that you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit it for publication.
License to Publish
By submitting and accepting publication of your work, you grant Tavi Grove a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to reproduce, publish, publicly display, distribute, and digitally transmit the work in connection with the publication.
This license allows us to:
Publish the work on our website and digital publications.
Display the work alongside related writing, photography, illustration, or other creative material.
Reproduce the work as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, and archive the publication.
Include the work in past or future collections, indexes, archives, or other records of work previously published by Tavi Grove.
Use reasonable excerpts, images, thumbnails, titles, and contributor names to promote the publication and the contributor’s appearance in it.
This license is non-exclusive. You do not give up your copyright or your ability to use the work elsewhere.
Promotional Use
You grant Tavi Grove permission to use your published work, or reasonable excerpts from it, to promote the publication, the work, and your participation as a contributor.
For example, we may use an excerpt from a story, a photograph, an illustration, or a thumbnail of your work on our website, social media, newsletters, promotional materials, or advertisements for Tavi Grove.
We will not sell, license, or otherwise provide your work to a third party for that party’s independent commercial use without your separate permission.
Removal from the Website
You may request that we remove your published work from public display on our website.
Upon receiving a removal request, we will make reasonable efforts to remove the work from the publicly accessible portion of the website.
Removal from the website does not revoke our archival rights. We retain the right to permanently archive work that has been published by Tavi Grove, including maintaining it in our internal or publicly accessible historical archives, records of past publications, or other archival collections.
We may also retain reasonable copies necessary for legal, administrative, technical, or historical recordkeeping.
Attribution
We will make reasonable efforts to credit contributors using the name and attribution information provided with the submission.
If you would like to be credited under a particular name, pseudonym, website, social-media handle, or other attribution, please provide that information when submitting your work.
Editing & Presentation
We may make reasonable changes to a submission for formatting, presentation, spelling, grammar, cropping, sizing, resolution, or technical requirements.
We will not materially alter the creative substance of a work without the contributor’s consent.
For photographs and illustrations, this may include resizing, compression, cropping, or other adjustments necessary for appropriate display on our website or in digital publications.
Originality & Rights of Others
By submitting work, you represent that:
You created the work or otherwise have the legal right to submit it.
Your submission does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright or other intellectual-property rights.
You have obtained any permissions reasonably necessary for material belonging to or depicting other people.
If your submission includes work created by another person, you have obtained the necessary permission to submit and publish that material.
You are responsible for the content and rights associated with your submission.
AI-Assisted Work
We allow the use of artificial intelligence and other digital tools as part of the creative process.
AI may be used for purposes such as editing, proofreading, retouching, color correction, compositing, formatting, or other forms of assistance.
However, the core creative contribution must come from the submitting author, photographer, illustrator, or other contributor.
For written work, this means that the substance, ideas, voice, and creative authorship should originate primarily with the contributor rather than being substantially generated by an AI system.
For photography and visual art, the underlying photograph, artwork, or core creative contribution must originate with the contributor. Tools such as Photoshop, AI-assisted retouching, generative fill, noise reduction, upscaling, or similar processes may be used as part of the contributor’s creative workflow.
We may ask contributors to disclose significant AI use where we believe that information is relevant to the work.
Editorial Discretion
Tavi Grove reserves the right to accept or reject any submission at its discretion.
We may decline to publish a submission, decline to continue working with a contributor, or remove a work from public display if we believe doing so is appropriate for editorial, legal, ethical, or other legitimate reasons.
Submission does not guarantee publication.
Compensation
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, submissions and publications are unpaid.
If Tavi Grove commissions work, offers payment, or enters into a separate agreement with a contributor, that agreement will govern the applicable compensation and rights.
If the Publication Ceases Operation
If Tavi Grove permanently ceases operation, the rights granted under this policy will continue only to the extent necessary to maintain and preserve the publication’s historical archive.
We will not use archived works for new commercial purposes after the publication has ceased operation.
The contributor’s underlying copyright and all rights not expressly granted under this policy remain with the contributor.
Acceptance of These Terms
By submitting work to Tavi Grove, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Submission & Rights Policy and agree to its terms.
If your work is accepted for publication, these terms constitute the agreement between you and Tavi Grove concerning the submission unless we separately agree otherwise in writing.
